Malti Shyam performs in Dhaka
India’s noted Kathak artiste Malti Shyam spellbound the audience on June 29, at the National Music and Dance Centre auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The artiste, one of India’s most prominent Kathak dancers of Lucknow gharana, performed at the programme organised by Nrityanchal along with her local disciples.
The programme was an outcome of a 10-day workshop where 70 Nrityanchal students trained on Kathak. Malti Shyam conducted the workshop along with Bangladeshi trainers at Nrityanchal.
Noted dancers Kajol Ibrahim, Munmun Ahmed, Shibli Mohammad and Shamim Ara Nipa attended the programme, among others.
The event began with a dance demonstration featuring young dancers who took part in the workshop followed by a dance piece by Snata Shahreen.
This was followed by a performance by Malti Shyam in sync with Tagore’s “Ami Choncholo Hey” followed by another classical performance.
