“Angry Birds” trailer is funny and surreal
Not only is “Angry Birds” a hugely popular game with tons of different versions for smartphones or tablets, it's also about to become what Sony Pictures Entertainment hopes is a big, blockbuster animated film. With the release creeping closer, a brand new trailer has hit.
While the last trailer was set to Michael Jackson's “Bad”, this one adds Foreigner's hit “Hot Blooded” to evoke the short, explosive temper of the protagonist that forms the core of the narrative. In his defense, he does have a lot to be angry about, what with what looks like a green pig invasion, uptight neighbors, and … eagle pee.
The story of “Angry Birds” is set on an island that is the home for a flightless bird society. Red (voiced by Jason Sudeikis) has anger management issues, which makes him an outsider in this lush paradise of an island. It doesn't help that he also has weird friends, Chuck (Josh Gad) and Bomb (Danny McBride), who literally explodes when he lets go. But when the pigs show up on the island, only these three socially awkward outcasts can find out what's really going on and, if they're lucky, save the day.
The film has put together an impressive cast. In addition to Sudeikis, Gad, and McBride, the film features Maya Rudolph, Kate McKinnon, Bill Hader, Peter Dinklage, Keegan-Michael Key and Tony Hale, among others.
Originally released for Apple iOS back in 2009, “Angry Birds”, from Finnish game developer Rovio Entertainment, has been downloaded more than 3 billion times worldwide. The 3D animated “Angry Birds” movie is scheduled for release on May 20.
