Breaking down Bharatnatyam

The third episode of Bengal Foundation's monthly series of lecture and demonstration programmes on 'Understanding Classical Dance' took place at Daily Star-Bengal Arts Precinct on February 10. Curated and presented by celebrated artiste, choreographer and educator, Sharmila Banerjee, The subject of the session was Bharatnatyam.

The presentation included narrations on the roots, evolution and historical development of Bharatnatyam, enhanced by audiovisual presentations where glimpses of performances by legendary Bharatnatyam dancers and schools of Bharatnatyam dance were shown. There were also performances from the repertoire of Bharatnatyam style by renowned and upcoming young Bharatnatyam dancers of Bangladesh.
