Four faculty members of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (Cuet) have secured a place among the world's top two percent of researchers for 2025.

The list was released on September 26 by Stanford University in the US and the Netherlands-based publisher Elsevier.

The faculty members are: Muhammad Mostafa Kamal Bhuiyan, head of the mechanical engineering department; Sumit Majumder, assistant professor of biomedical engineering; and Prof Md Ashraf Ali and Associate Prof Md Moktar Hossain, both from the physics department.

Officials said their work earned global recognition in areas such as renewable and alternative energy, energy conversion, bulk silicon crystal growth, materials science, wearable biosensors, smart textiles, and artificial intelligence.

The ranking is prepared annually based on published papers, citations, H-index, consistency, and the impact of co-authors. Researchers are evaluated in two categories—lifetime achievements and single-year performance.

This year's list covers 236,314 researchers worldwide across 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields.

Speaking about his work, Mostafa Kamal said: "My research focused on finding alternatives to fossil fuels. I worked on how to produce second-generation biodiesel as an environmentally friendly energy source."

Prof Ashraf said: "My research centred on material design and modelling, particularly thermoelectric materials and solar cells."

Cuet Vice Chancellor Prof Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan said: "It is a matter of great pride that our teachers have earned global recognition despite limited facilities. Their hard work and intellect have placed them among the world's leading researchers. This achievement inspires us all. We are committed to expanding research further and are already providing grants and other support for both teachers and students."
