Ali escaped NZ shooter by hiding under bench

Ramjan Ali narrowly escaped the shooter of New Zealand mosques by hiding under a bench.

With blood splattered on his shirt Ali narrated the horrific moments to ABC News immediately after the attacks yesterday.

He hid when the lone gunman came in, he was the last person to come out of the mosque alive, said ABC News.

"I just lied down under the bench and think that if I get out I'll get shot, keeping my fingers crossed so I could be alive," standing outdoors near the crime scene, Ali told ABC News.

"The blood is splashing on me and I think Oh my god, what is gonna happen to me now," he said.

A right-wing extremist who filmed himself on a shooting rampage that left 49 mosque-goers dead flashed a white power gesture as he appeared in a New Zealand court Saturday charged with murder.

Australian-born 28-year-old Brenton Tarrant stood in the dock wearing handcuffs and a white prison smock, as the judge read a single murder charge against him. A raft of further charges are expected.
