Wasique wins Spelling Bee

Wasique Hasan

Wasique Hasan, a ninth grade student of Marie Curie School has bagged the Champion's title of The Daily Star Spelling Bee. Channel i aired The Spelling Bee Grand Finale on Thursday. Out of six finalists, Wasique emerged as victor with a whopping score of 115. He wasn't leading the scoreboard in the first round, but became a frontrunner by cracking the Spell Hive perfectly, and scored highest in the last round, Spell Buzz.  

Naiyareen Fareeza Mayeen, Sunbeams, came second with 85 points to become the 1st runner-up while Saif Rahman, Regent College, with 75 points was declared 2nd runners up for this season.

Wasique Hasan is disciplined and far more eloquent than kids are his age. He is an avid reader whose favourite author is Christopher Paolini. He is also into cricket and table tennis. Wasique proved tenacity pays off, as this was his third year participating in Spelling Bee, and it finally bore fruit.

His parents Nasima Akhter and Wakar Hasan were ecstatic at their son's achievement.

The Grand Finale wrapped up the third season of Spelling Bee in Bangladesh. The chief guest for the event, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid presented Wasique with the Spelling Bee trophy, while The Daily Star Editor and Publisher MahfuzAnam draped him with the traditional red gown and mortarboard of Spelling Bee. He also won education policy worth taka 5 lacs from MetLife Alico and a ticket to Wshington DC (USA) with a parent, from Champs21.com.
