Ward Jubo League leader murdered in Noakhali

A Jubo League leader was killed in Companiganj upazila of Noakhali yesterday night.

The deceased Mohammad Rashed (32) was the organising secretary of Ward 8 Jubo League unit, under Char Elahi union in the upazila, our Naokhali correspondent reports quoting police.

He was picked up from his workplace at Hasim Bazar by some miscreants and killed around 10pm, said Arifur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Companiganj Police Station.   

Police arrested three persons in this connection.

There has been a long-standing conflict over "establishing supremacy" in the area between two groups -- one led by Rashed and his elder brother Delwar and the other led by their cousin Mozammel, OC Arifur said.

The rival group picked up Rashed and killed him, the OC added.

Filing of a case was underway in this regard, he said.

This killing occurred within 24 hours of Chhatra League activist Abu Jahed's murder in Rampur union under the same upazila in a separate incident.
