Moghbazar flyover ordeal won’t end soon (video)
What began as the construction of a one-of-a-kind elevated expressway in Dhaka two years ago, the Moghbazar flyover has suffered periods of lags in the making.
The traffic situation along the construction site that has turned worse is unlikely to get better until the completion of the structure – not before 2017.
The construction of nearly 8.15 kilometre long four-lane elevated expressway, budgeted at Tk 772 crore, started in February 2013 and had a scheduled deadline of December 2014.
Now, the construction work is unlikely to end before 2017, mainly because the project had change of plans, said a top official of the local government division requesting anonymity.
A PLACE PLAGUED BY TRAFFIC
Even though the traffic in Dhaka has been at a sorry state for long, it is the Moghbazar-Malibagh-Mouchak areas that are the most plagued by tailbacks since long.
Bangladesh government started making elevated expressways to ease the traffic congestions in the capital with Moghbazar area in special focus.
The flyover will connect Sat Rasta in Tejgaon to Holy Family hospital, Rampura to Santinagar and Banglamotor to Rajarbagh.
However, what was bad traffic conditions on these roads in the first place, turned worse with the start of the flyover’s construction.
Now, construction materials and equipments are being kept right at the middle of the road squeezing traffic space for vehicles posing danger for all.
