Perhaps you know the answer – yes, every year the number of Hilsa is decreasing. This is happening not just because of overfishing, but also because unscrupulous fishermen are using gill nets to catch baby Hilsa, thus jeopardising the fish’s growth.
Gill nets are so deadly that even the baby fishes are unable to escape. Banned in the country for its consequences, gill nets are still aplenty in Bangladesh.
In Munshiganj, over 500 factories are currently making gill nets and the manufacturers deny its deadly consequences. Find out more in the video:
