Interpol’s National central Bureau in Dhaka has sent a “letter of request” to its New Delhi office to arrest BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed, who was found in Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, two months after his missing from Dhaka.

“The Interpol’s National central Bureau in Delhi has forwarded the letter to us this morning with a request to arrest the Bangladeshi senior political leader,” Vivek Syiem, superintendent of police (city) of East Khashi Hills in Meghalaya, told The Daily Star around 5:00pm over phone.

Asked, he said they have already replied to the letter saying that the Meghalaya police have already arrested him.

Replying to a query, the top police official said its nothing like Interpol’s red notice or red alert.

Kamakhya Prasad, Deputy SP (HQ) of East Khasi Hills, told this correspondent that the Interpol’s Dhaka office sent the letter to Delhi upon a request from the Bangladesh government.

However, State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today told reporters that he has no idea about making any such request by the government to Interpol’s Dhaka branch.
