TikTok launches STEM content feed in Bangladesh

TikTok has recently launched a dedicated in-app science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) content feed in Bangladesh.

The initiative, supported by the Government of Bangladesh, aims to make educational resources more accessible and engaging for young learners across the country.

According to TikTok, the STEM Feed will offer users a curated stream of educational videos, featuring content from local creators, partners and publishers. TikTok has also introduced the hashtag #STEMTok to make local-language STEM resources easier to find. The company said the feature aligns with the government's goal of expanding access to quality digital education and promoting responsible online engagement.

TikTok also highlighted its safety measures, including features such as family pairing, time-away scheduling and teen network visibility. The platform said the new feed follows its global Community Guidelines and will feature only credible and age-appropriate material.

Regarding content moderation, Ferdous Mottakin, Head of Public Policy and Government Relations for South Asia, told The Daily Star, "With our third-party collaborators, our team works to keep appropriate content on TikTok. It is a work in progress and we are improving day by day."

In early 2023, TikTok STEM feed was initially launched for younger users in the US which expanded throughout the years.
