Team Bangladesh to attend international robotics competition

A group of young students from The Tech Academy (TTA) in Dhaka is set to represent Bangladesh at the FIRST Global Challenge (FGC) 2025, an international robotics competition.

The event will be held in Panama later this month, bringing together student teams from more than 190 countries to solve engineering challenges through science, technology, and teamwork.

"Team Bangladesh completed its primary robot two months ahead of schedule, giving members extra time for testing and driver training. A second robot was also completed a month before the competition after we got the necessary components. We will take the second bot to the competition," said Shams Jaber, Founder and CEO of The Tech Academy.

According to The Tech Academy, the team consisting of 6 members – all under the age of 15 – simulated 100 practice matches, and developed their own software to monitor performance and simulate real-world scenarios.

Earlier at the FIRST Global Challenge, Bangladeshi team secured seventh place worldwide in 2019 and won the online world championship in 2020.

The 2025 challenge focuses on "coopetition" – collaboration through competition. Teams will form international alliances for each round. Team Bangladesh has conducted alliance practice sessions and collaborated with 15 other countries to exchange performance data and refine strategies.

During the event, Team Bangladesh will compete in 10 tasks spread over three days, totalling just 25 minutes of gameplay.

Founded by For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST), the FGC aims to promote innovation, STEM education, and cross-cultural collaboration among high school students.
