Google has introduced cross-platform wireless file sharing between Android and Apple devices, beginning with its new Pixel 10 phones.

The update announced on November 20, allows Pixel 10 users to send and receive files via Apple's AirDrop by extending Google's Quick Share system to work directly with Apple hardware. It marks the first time that AirDrop-style transfers have been possible between the two operating systems.

In a recent blog post, Google said the feature is designed to make sharing between friends and family more seamless, regardless of the device they own. The company stressed that the system was built with "security at its core," adding that independent experts had tested the safeguards in place.

In a note on its support platform, Google said the feature works with iPhone, iPad and macOS devices, although Apple users must temporarily make their devices discoverable to "everyone for 10 minutes" before a Pixel 10 can initiate a transfer. Once enabled, the process is similar to a standard AirDrop request on Apple devices. Transfers in the opposite direction also work, provided the Pixel 10 has been set to receive files.

Google also mentioned the change as part of a broader push for better compatibility across platforms, following updates to RCS messaging and alerts for unknown trackers.
