OpenAI launches ChatGPT Health
OpenAI has launched a dedicated health tool within its ChatGPT platform called 'ChatGPT Health', which allows users to connect their medical records and fitness app data to inform the AI's responses.
In the official announcement of the new feature, the company stated that health is one of the most common uses of ChatGPT, with hundreds of millions of people asking related questions each week. The new feature is designed to provide more personalised answers by grounding conversations in a user's own health information, such as lab results or data from apps like Apple Health and MyFitnessPal. OpenAI emphasised that the tool is intended to support, not replace, professional medical care, and is not for diagnosis or treatment.
To address privacy concerns, OpenAI stated that ChatGPT Health operates in a separate, isolated space with enhanced encryption. Conversations within Health will not be used to train the company's foundational AI models. Medical record access in the US is facilitated through a partnership with the data network b.well. The tool was developed with input from over 260 physicians who provided feedback on model outputs, says OpenAI.
Access is initially being offered via a waitlist to a small group of users outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK, with plans to expand availability in the coming weeks.
