Microsoft has recently announced MAI-Image-1, its first internally developed AI model for generating images from text descriptions. The model is currently available for testing through the LMArena platform and will soon be integrated into Microsoft's Copilot and Bing Image Creator services, according to an official blog post by the company.

As per Microsoft, the model was designed with input from creative professionals to avoid producing repetitive or generic-looking images. The company said that it emphasised the model's focus on photorealistic results, citing capabilities in rendering elements like lighting and landscapes, and noted the model operates faster than some larger alternatives.

This announcement represents Microsoft's latest step in developing its own AI technology, complementing its existing partnerships with other AI firms such as OpenAI and Anthropic. The company said the model reflects its broader strategy of creating purpose-built AI systems.
