Microsoft and Nvidia have announced a multi-billion-dollar investment in artificial intelligence company Anthropic, the maker of the Claude AI models.

Under the agreement, Nvidia will invest up to $10 billion while Microsoft will commit up to $5 billion in Anthropic. The AI company has made a significant commitment in return, agreeing to purchase $30 billion worth of computing capacity on Microsoft's Azure cloud platform.

The partnership will make Anthropic's Claude models available to Azure enterprise customers, marking the first time these AI systems will be accessible across all three major cloud providers, as per the announcement by Microsoft. The collaboration includes specific models Claude Sonnet 4.5, Claude Opus 4.1, and Claude Haiku 4.5.

Anthropic and Nvidia will also work together on technical development, aiming to optimise Anthropic's models for performance and efficiency while tailoring future Nvidia hardware for Anthropic's requirements. The computing commitment involves substantial capacity using Nvidia's Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin systems.

Microsoft confirmed in its announcement that it will continue integrating Claude across its Copilot products, including GitHub Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot. Anthropic, founded by former OpenAI staff in 2021, was recently valued at $183 billion and reportedly projects significant revenue growth next year, as per a Reuters report on the matter.
