Facebook Messenger's logo has recently reverted to a solid blue design, replacing the purple and pink gradient that had been in place since 2020.

The change, which appeared without an official announcement from Meta, has sparked speculation from netizens about its significance and whether it signals an upcoming major shift in Messenger's branding.

Messenger's visual identity has evolved over the years since its launch as an app in iOS and Android in 2011. The original logo featured a simple blue speech bubble with a white lightning bolt, reflecting Facebook's classic sky-blue palette and emphasising the concept of a faster communication platform.

This design remained largely unchanged through subtle updates in 2013 and 2018, which softened the bubble's shape into a more rounded and approachable form. In 2020, Meta introduced a gradient logo incorporating shades of pink, purple, and blue to align Messenger visually with Instagram.

The sudden return to blue has led to questions by netizens about whether Meta is repositioning Messenger more closely with Facebook or refining its identity amid ongoing platform integrations.

The update appears to be widespread across devices and operating systems, suggesting it is not a temporary glitch. While some users have welcomed the return to the original colour, others have expressed frustration over the unexpected change.
