Instagram and Facebook face disruptions worldwide
Meta's social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram, experienced significant outages on Wednesday night, affecting thousands of users globally. According to Downdetector.com, an outage tracking service, over 102,000 users reported issues with Facebook, while Instagram saw more than 60,000 complaints.
The disruptions began on December 11 around 11:45 p.m. (GMT+6) Bangladesh time and reports about the incident have been growing on Downdetector.com. Meta's messaging service, WhatsApp was also disrupted with over 4,800 users reporting problems. Many users encountered error messages stating "something went wrong".
In the verified account of Meta on X (formerly, twitter), the company acknowledged about a technical issue. Meta said, "We're aware that a technical issue is impacting some users' ability to access our apps."
On December 12, after about 4 hours of the previous post, Meta again posted stating, "We're 99% of the way there - just doing some last checks. We apologize to those who've been affected by the outage."
Earlier this year, a technical issue caused outages for hundreds of thousands of users across Facebook and Instagram. In October, the platforms faced another brief outage, with services restored within an hour.
