Starting February 19, Facebook will automatically delete live broadcast videos from Pages and profiles after 30 days, according to a recent announcement by the popular social media platform. Previously, these videos were stored indefinitely.

As such, users who want to keep their live videos must download or transfer them before they expire. Here's how you do so.

What's changing?

  • New live videos – Will be deleted 30 days after broadcasting.
  • Old live videos – Any live video older than 30 days will be removed in waves over the coming months.
  • Notifications – Users will receive email and in-app alerts before archival live videos are deleted. After receiving a notice, they will have 90 days to save their content.

How to save live videos

Facebook has stated a few ways in which live videos can be saved. They are:

Download a single video

  • Go to the Videos tab on your profile or page. On pages, the Live tab may be under More.
  • Select the video, open it in full screen, click […], and choose Download video.
  • Alternatively, access live videos through your Activity Log, select Your live videos, and filter by date range.

Bulk download

  • Tap the notification about video deletion.
  • Select Download live videos and choose a destination (computer or device).
  • Pick a date range and tap Create File to start the download.

Transfer to cloud storage

  • Tap the notification and select Transfer live videos.
  • Choose a cloud storage provider (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.).
  • Confirm and save.

Convert to Reels

Users can save clips from live videos as Reels, which remain on their profiles beyond the 30-day limit. Reels have a 90-second duration cap.

There are a few ways to do this.

  • After a live broadcast ends, tap Create reel.
  • Open the full-screen view of a published live video and select Video clipping.
  • When creating a Reel, tap Your content, then choose Livestreams or Clips to add live video content.

Postpone deletion

Users needing extra time can defer deletion for six months:

  • Tap the notification and select Learn More.
  • Tap Postpone the deletion and confirm.
