Gmail introduces e-mail translation feature for mobile users

Gmail's Android and iOS applications have introduced a native translation capability for emails, a feature that has been long available on the desktop version. The update aims to provide mobile users with a seamless translation experience, eliminating the need for manual methods like copying and pasting content into Google Translate or using Google Lens for screenshots.

Users can access the translation feature by clicking the 'Translate' option in the three-dot overflow menu located at the top-right corner of an email. The chosen output language can be set in the app's settings. When the content of an email does not match the user's "Gmail display language," a prompt for translation is provided.

Notably, users can personalise their translation preferences. They have the option to disable translation prompts for specific languages, which is useful for multilingual individuals.

The rollout of this translation integration will be gradual, starting with Android users over the next two weeks. iOS device users can expect the feature to launch on 21st August.
