A beast on wheels—now electrified: Mercedes-Benz G 580 unveiled in Bangladesh

The G-Wagon has gone electric—but don't panic. It's still the same boxy, rugged icon we know and love, only now with a quad-motor setup delivering a staggering 587 horsepower. That's enough power to launch this luxury tank from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds. With a 116 kWh battery providing a range of 473 km per charge, it has the stamina to back up its performance. Sure, that range won't break records, but with 1164 Nm torque and an advanced terrain response system, the Mercedes-Benz G 580 remains as off-road-ready as ever.
For the traditionalists, rest assured—the G 580 still looks like luxury armour on wheels, just electrified. The boxy silhouette remains, but Mercedes has added a modern touch. Inside, it's all about high-end luxury: a fully digital dashboard, Nappa leather seats, and a premium sound system to drown out the noise of lesser SUVs struggling to keep up. The adaptive suspension and locking differentials ensure this EV isn't just for show—it's built to get dirty.

On February 8, 2025, Mercedes-Benz invited us to witness the unveiling of the all-new 2025 Mercedes-Benz G 580 at their showroom in Tejgaon. It was an exclusive first look at the brand's latest flagship SUV. The event kicked off with three G 580s waiting under covers, ready to make their debut. Setting the stage for the reveal was Avik Anwar, Bangladesh's first local and international motorsports champion. Later, Saidus Salehin Khaled Sumon—better known as Bassbaba Sumon, the legendary frontman of Aurthohin—arrived, adding even more excitement to the mix. A racing champion and a rockstar? Now that's a dynamic duo.
Before the big moment, Mercedes-Benz Bangladesh's director, Imran Zaman, hosted a clever quiz session. It wasn't your usual pop quiz—it was a test of true petrolhead knowledge. Thanks to that, I now know G-Wagons are made in Austria.

If you know the G-Wagon, you already understand its reputation: a luxury tank on wheels. If you don't, let's just say it's the kind of SUV that can climb a mountain, survive a war, and still turn heads outside a five-star hotel.
The new G 580 EV comes packed with innovations. The G-Roar feature mimics a low-range gearbox, ensuring smooth torque delivery over rough terrain. G-Turn allows the SUV to spin in place like an RC car—perfect for showing off (or escaping a tight spot). Finally, G-Steering tweaks torque distribution to improve trail manoeuvring.
Basically, this is still an off-road monster—just one that runs on electricity. The first to be unveiled was a blue G 580, followed by the others—each as imposing and elegant as the first. Just when we thought the show was over, Mercedes-Benz Bangladesh threw in a curveball, unboxing two more G 580s right before our eyes.

Compared to other EVs, the G 580 prioritises off-road dominance and exclusivity over sheer range. If you want something that can handle Dhaka's roads (and beyond) while turning heads, this SUV is in a league of its own.
The atmosphere was electric, with content creators, influencers, and die-hard enthusiasts capturing every detail of this electrified beast. To cap things off, Mercedes-Benz Bangladesh dropped one final bombshell—an EV Maybach is planned for launch in mid-March 2025.
In short, this wasn't just an unveiling—it was a statement. A reminder that the G-Wagon isn't just another luxury SUV. It's a legend, and now, it's an electrified one.
