Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal told reporters at the Election Commission that Shahabuddin, the ruling party nominee, was elected unopposed

Shahabuddin started his career in judicial service in 1983 and was a district judge till 2006. He also discharged duties as chairman of labour court in 2006, lawyer of the Supreme Court from 2008 to 2011 and ACC commissioner from March 2011 to March 2016.
