TECH THAT'S ALL AROUND US
Throughout the years, information technology has penetrated the lives of millions of people all over the world. Bangladesh is no exception to this phenomenon. Over the years, unforeseeable changes took place that revolutionised the way people behave and live on a day-to-day basis. The IT sector has flourished to accommodate a wide range of activities starting from transportation to lodging to feasting and much more. This has been and still is being incorporated into each and every aspect of a person's life. It's shaping the way people think. It's ingrained into people's minds on a subconscious level. The growth and spread of IT in Bangladesh is a remarkable tale of pride and triumph. Hundreds of start ups are booming in the country to address the needs of the people ranging from mainstream to niche.
Even ten years ago, no one would've thought that people would be willing to let other people use their personal cars for transport. Today we have a dozen ride-sharing apps such as Pathao, Uber, Shohoz amongst other that are disrupting the market by doing just that.
Even the government of Bangladesh is harnessing the power of technology to take services at citizens doorstep. Several priority projects have already made some of the services accessible to the remotest corners of the country. After the completion of Info-Sorkar Project, government expects most of its offices will be connected to a nationwide intra-net. This very project will make sure a great shift towards IT in public sector.
Not just that, home-grown IT companies are bring out solution for almost all the corporates. Local banks are continuously opting for more and more local IT solutions. The hospitals, schools, businesses and Ready Made Garments industry has been relying on local IT solutions for ages now.
Ecommerce on the other hand has become a dominating trait in the modern day shopping scene. Customers today are more and more inclined to shopping online with an aim to save time and energy. People all over the country are gradually realising how important it is to keep up with technology. These platforms are now being used in business & networking, discourse & activism, and much more.
Technology is a gift that keeps on giving. However, with limitless potential comes limitless responsibility. To responsibly reap the benefits of information technology, we need to further the portfolio of IT usage in Bangladesh, while also looking into some of the features that are taking the western world by storm. From creators' end, the needs of the people need to be appropriately assessed in order to reinvent technology as we know it.
