Smriti Mandhana notched up another record on Sunday during India's Women's World Cup match against Australia when she became the first women's player in history to score 1000 ODI runs in a calendar year.

Needing just 18 runs to get there, the India vice-captain reached the milestone in style with a huge six off Sophie Molineux's bowling.

In the same match in Vizag, the 29-year-old left-hander also became the fifth batter to score 5000 runs in women's ODIs when she reached 58. Mandhana achieved the feat in just 112 innings, making her both the youngest and quickest player to reach the 5,000-run mark. Finally she scored 80 off 66 balls.

Earlier in the tournament, Mandhana had broken the record for the most runs made by a woman batter in a calendar year during the match against South Africa on Thursday. She went past Belinda Clark's 1997 tally of 970 runs with a six off Ayabonga Khaka in the eighth over of the innings.

Playing in her third ODI World Cup, Mandhana was also part of the Indian side that finished runners-up to England in the 2017 edition held in the United Kingdom.

Despite her record-breaking feats, Mandhana's form in this World Cup has been modest so far, with scores of 8 against Sri Lanka, 23 versus Pakistan and 23 against South Africa. While India won the first two matches, their top-order struggles came to the fore in the three-wicket loss to the Proteas.
