Sobhana, Rabeya lift Bangladesh to 178

Sobhana Mostary scored a patient half-century while Rabeya Khan smashed a quickfire 43 as Bangladesh posted 178 all out in 49.4 overs.

Sobhana, batting at number three, scored 60 off 108 deliveries -- the first half-century of her career. She started briskly but slowed down towards the end as Bangladesh continued to lose wickets at regular intervals.

Opener Sharmin Akter Shupta had given the Tigresses, who won their opening match against Pakistan by seven wickets, a brisk start with 30 off 52 deliveries. However, a middle-order collapse following a duck from skipper Nigar Sultana put Bangladesh in all sorts of trouble. Rabeya, the all-rounder, then came out with an attacking approach, sweeping and slog-sweeping the ball powerfully while also showing a delicate touch to her batting.

As it looked Bangladesh might fold below 150, her boundary-laden innings ensured the bowlers found something to defend.

Bangladesh have been asked to bat first in their second match of the ICC Women's ODI World Cup in Guwahati on Tuesday.

The Nigar Sultana-led side made a terrific start to their campaign, beating Pakistan by seven wickets in their first match in Colombo earlier in the week, which happened to be their second-ever ODI World Cup win.

It was a complete team performance from the Tigresses, who outbowled, outbatted and outfielded their opposition. However, there were a few key performers in that victory, with Marufa Akter's two-wicket haul early ensuring the opposition did not get a good total on the board.

In reply of a modest 129, debutant Rubya Haider Jhelik scored an unbeaten half-century to lead the way.

The Tigresses will, however, be up against a much stiffer opposition in England, who brushed aside South Africa by 10 wickets in their first game.
