Chattogram move atop after beating Sylhet in high-scoring clash
Chattogram Royals moved to the top of the points table of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 after beating Sylhet Titans by 14 runs in a high-scoring encounter at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
Riding on meaningful contributions from Adam Rossington (49 off 38 balls), Mahmudul Hasan Joy (44 off 21 balls) and a late blitz of an unbeaten 33 off 13 balls from skipper Mahedi Hasan, Chattogram posted the tournament's highest total of 198 for five in 20 overs after being sent in to bat first.
Ruyel Miah was the pick of the Sylhet bowlers, finishing with figures of 3-41.
In reply, Chattogram's bowlers, led by Aamer Jamal (4-34), never allowed the Sylhet batters to settle, as the hosts lost wickets at regular intervals. At one stage, Sylhet were reeling at 117 for six in the 15th over, despite Afif Hossain's 46 off 33 balls.
Khaled Ahmed played a late cameo of 25 off nine balls, smashing three sixes to inject some excitement towards the end, but the innings ended when he was stumped off Tanvir Islam's bowling. Tanvir finished with figures of 2-38 as Sylhet were bowled out for 184 in 19.4 overs.
It was Chattogram's fourth win in six matches, while, despite the defeat, Sylhet remained third in the points table with six points from seven matches.
