Wellalage learns of father’s death after Sri Lanka’s win

Right after Sri Lanka completed a six-wicket win over Afghanistan in their final Group B match of the Asia Cup in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, their all-rounder Dunith Wellalage received the heartbreaking news of his father's demise in Colombo.

Dunith's father, Suranga Wellalage, passed away in Colombo due to a heart attack, confirmed Newswire.

As per sources, his father had passed away during the match but Dunith, who was playing his first match in this year's Asia Cup, learnt of it only after the conclusion of the match.

The Sri Lankan players have dedicated the win to Dunith and support has been pouring in from the cricketing world for this young all-rounder.

Sri Lanka won the clash by six wickets at Zayed Cricket Stadium, chasing down a 170-run target in 18.4 overs.

The 22-year-old all-rounder claimed 1-49 in his four overs and was not required with the bat. He had given away just 17 runs in his first three overs but was taken apart by Mohammad Nabi in the 20th over, who hit him for five sixes.
