Asia Cup 2025

Fahim ‘hopeful of getting good news’ about Litton ahead of Tigers’ crucial Pakistan clash

In Wednesday's crucial Asia Cup Super Four match against India, Bangladesh missed their captain Litton Das due to injury. The team couldn't put up much of a fight either, losing the contest by 41 runs at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Now, ahead of today's virtual semifinal against Pakistan at the same venue, it's still uncertain whether he will play. However, Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) head of cricket operations, Nazmul Abedin Fahim, expressed hope for good news.

On Monday, while batting in the nets, Litton felt a strain on the left side of his back. He lay down immediately due to discomfort and skipped the rest of the practice, raising concerns about his availability. Still, the team management remained hopeful about his participation. Acting captain Jaker Ali, who led the side against India, said they waited until the very last moment for their skipper.

Since Litton did not feel comfortable after arriving at the ground, he eventually didn't play. Now, within 24 hours comes the do-or-die battle against Pakistan. Whether Liton will play remains uncertain.

But after the India match, Fahim, currently in Dubai, gave a positive hint to reporters.

"Litton Das had a minor physical issue, he's under observation. Hopefully, we'll get good news," he said.

While the gap in strength was quite visible against India, Bangladesh have often matched Pakistan competitively. As recently as July, Litton's side beat Pakistan in a T20I series at home. Fahim hopes the team can win the virtual semifinal and reach the Asia Cup final for the fourth time.

"Of course, we hope to get a good result against Pakistan. We are in momentum, and everyone believes that by beating Pakistan we'll reach the final," Fahim added.
