Shakib’s cameo in vain as Antigua and Barbuda exit CPL

Bangladesh star Shakib Al Hasan's late cameo with the bat could not save Antigua and Barbuda Falcons as they bowed out of the Caribbean Premier League with a nine-wicket defeat to Trinbago Knight Riders in the Eliminator at Providence Stadium, Guyana, on Tuesday.

Shakib, batting at No. 6, struck an unbeaten 26 off just nine balls, lifting the Falcons to 166 for eight after half-centuries from Andries Gous and Amir Jangoo. 

Nicholas Pooran then took charge of the chase, smashing 90 not out from 53 deliveries. With Alex Hales adding a steady 54 not out, TKR coasted home in 17.3 overs to book their place in Qualifier 2, where they will face either Guyana Amazon Warriors or Saint Lucia Kings.

With the ball, Shakib went wicketless, conceding 24 runs in three overs.
