NSC relives shooting federation joint secretary Haider from his duties

By Star Sports Report

The National Sports Council (NSC) has relieved former shooter GM Haider of his duties as joint secretary of the Bangladesh Shooting Sports Federation following allegations of sexual harassment.

The ad-hoc committee of the federation was formed in July last year, with Haider appointed as joint secretary. Soon after the committee's announcement, Haider came under negative scrutiny as several female shooters brought forward allegations against him, including claims of sexual harassment. Calls for his removal were raised across various platforms.

The decision to remove Haider was confirmed through a notification signed by NSC Executive Director Md Daulatuzzaman Khan on January 1.

National team shooter Kamrunnahar Koly, along with Tasmiyati Ema and former shooter Sharmin Akhter Ratna, made similar allegations against Haider while participating in a human chain organised to protest sexual harassment in sports. Koly and Ema alleged that Haider had subjected them to various forms of harassment and had also attempted to force them out of the national training camp through conspiracy.

Meanwhile, the shooting federation has temporarily suspended Koly from shooting and issued her with a show-cause notice, asking why the suspension should not be made permanent.

Following the emergence of the allegations, the NSC formed an investigation committee. Several shooters also submitted complaints of sexual harassment against Haider to the committee.
