Mabia and two others leave for Asian Weightlifting C'ships in S Korea
Three weightlifters, including SA Games gold medallist Mabia Akter Simanta, left the capital last night to take part in the Asian Weightlifting Championships, starting today in South Korea.
Apart from Mabia, Smrity Akter and Ashikur Rahman Taj are the two other participants from Bangladesh being accompanied by coach Shahria Sultana Suchi and Bangladesh Weightlifting Federation vice president Mohyuddin Ahmed.
Though the championship began today after verifying the final entries of the participants and a meeting between the local committee and the Asian Weightlifting Federation executive board, the main competition will start on May 5 with Smrity and Taj vying in their respective 55-kg categories on the opening day.
Simanta will then compete in the 64-kg category on May 8 before the championships come to an end on May 13.
