Chapol wants to take Bangladesh archery to unprecedented height
Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapol, former general secretary of the Bangladesh Archery Federation, has been elected president of World Archery Asia (WAA).
The veteran organiser secured 29 votes against 9 against Thomas Han, the incumbent general secretary of the continental body, in the presidential election held in Dhaka on Saturday. He will replace the long-serving incumbent Chung Eui-sun, executive chairman and CEO of Hyundai Motor Group. Chung had been at the helm of World Archery Asia since 2005.
With this victory, Chapal becomes the first Bangladeshi ever to lead the continental governing body of archery, which oversees the sport's development and competitions across Asia. He will serve a four-year term, steering the organisation through its next cycle of growth and coordination with the global body, World Archery.
The election took place during the World Archery Asia Congress, which brought together delegates from 38 member associations across Asia. The meeting coincided with the Teer 24th Asian Archery Championships 2025, also being hosted in Dhaka.
