Afghanistan deny Bangladesh a final berth in CAVA Cup

Hosts Bangladesh's bid to play in the final of CAVA (Central Asian Volleyball Association) Cup was crushed with a 3-1 sets defeat to Afghanistan in their final group match at the Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium in Mirpur on Monday.

Bangladesh's second successive defeat meant Afghanistan, with four wins from five games, set up a final clash against Turkmenistan who had beaten Bangladesh by 3-2 sets on Sunday.

The home side had beaten Afghanistan beat twice in warm-up matches before the tournament and duly took the first set 25-23 but since then Afghanistan only grew stronger, taking the next three sets 25-20, 25-23 and 25-19.

The final between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan will take place today at the same venue.
