ICRC T20: Bangladesh beat England by 14 runs
Bangladesh began the ICRC T20 tournament for people with physical disabilities with flying colours by overcoming the strong English team by 14 runs.
At Savar’s Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan, Bangladesh got the tournament running by batting first in their match.
Bangladesh managed to score 117 runs in their quota of overs after losing eight wickets.
Kumar was the highest run-getter for his team with his timely knock of 22 runs. He was ably supported by Tirtho, whose 17-run cameo came in handy in the context of the low total.
Chasing 118 for victory, the English batters were cautious to begin with, and the required run-rate started to climb as the wickets fell.
In the end the English chase petered out with all the top-order batsmen back in the pavilion. They could not keep up with the asking rate and folded fourteen runs short of the target.
The match was supposed to be held on Wednesday but rain delayed it by two days.
The ICRC International T20 Cricket Tournament will be a five-nation Twenty20 cricket competition for people with physical disabilities.
It will be held from 2–10 September 2015 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Organised by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Bangladesh Cricket Board, and Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan, it is the first tournament of its kind.
The competing teams are Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and England.
