AFC GIRLS REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

The twin dreams

There are quite a few instances of two brothers together representing Bangladesh national football team. Monwar Hossain Nannu and his younger brother Shamsul Alam Manju, for instance, or Zahid Hasan Emily and his elder brother Shakil Ahmed, have together represented the national football team on many occasions. There are also instances of two sisters representing their respective district teams in women’s national football championship. However, there is perhaps no instance of twin sisters representing Bangladesh at the international level, which is what just might happen today.
Anai Mogini and Anuching Mogini might become the first pair of twin sisters to represent Bangladesh when they make debut for the U-14 women’s team against India in the AFC Girls Regional Championship in Tajikistan.
Anuching and Anai were products of the Bagamata Gold Cup Primary School Tournament and proud members of Moghachari Government Primary School of Rangamati, which won the inaugural edition in 2012. They have finally made their way into the national age-level team after playing for Bangladesh Ansar and Narayanganj district team recently.
With some of the players of the last edition of AFC Girls Regional Championship crossing the 14-year-old limit, Anuching and Anai, who were born five minutes apart, are now key players of the team which promises to defend the title won last year.
The team’s coach Golam Rabbani Choton thinks Anuching is the best striker in the squad and her twin sister Anai a dependable defender.
