India keep Bangladesh waiting
Bangladesh have to wait to secure a place in the final of SAFF U-20 Championship after India inflicted a massive 8-0 defeat to Nepal in their third match at Kalinga Stadium in Bhuvaneswar, India tonight.
With two wins in three matches, India matched Nepal with equal six points but stay far ahead of the Himalayan nation on goal difference.
Bangladesh were on the top of the table with nine points from three matches before India took on Nepal and now the two nations have a chance to catch Bangladesh, provided they win their last group matches against Maldives and Bangladesh, respectively, on August 2.
If more than two teams finish on the top of the table with equal points, then the head-to-head record, goal difference and better goals scored among three teams will come into effect.
A draw against Nepal is good enough for the men in red and green to confirm their final berth. However, a defeat greater than two-goal margin will send Bangladesh home packing if India beat Maldives as well.
