‘He needs more time’: Cabrera explains Fahamedul’s departure

Bangladesh football team head coach Javier Cabrera said Italy-based Bangladeshi footballer Fahamedul Islam was sent home after the national team's camp in Saudi Arabia as the youngster needs more time to adapt and there are more suitable options available in the squad at the moment.
"Fahamedul has not travelled to Dhaka. He was with us for one week in Saudi. He has done well. He is a talented player. But still, he needs a bit more time. So, he has not come here with the team. But he did a good job," Cabrera told the media at the airport after the team returned to Dhaka from Saudi Arabia today morning.
"No, he has not travelled with us today. He has gone back to Italy but again, he has done a good job. It was good for us to have him. It has been good for him also to meet the players and the team. But for now, there are other players that are more ready. He is very young, so he needs a bit more time to adapt," he added.
Fahamedul was one of the surprise inclusions in the 38-member preliminary squad for the Asian Cup Qualifier match against India in Shillong on March 25, and was reportedly brought in as per the insistence of coach Cabrera.
The 18-year-old, who plays for fourth-tier Italian club Olbia Calcio 1905, joined the camp in Saudi Arabia on March 10 and trained with the national team.
But after the training camp, Cabrera sent him back to Italy. And national team manager Amer Khan hinted that Fahamedul could get called up to the youth team next up.
The Spanish coach also expressed his and the team's excitement about the prospect of having Sheffield United midfielder Hamza Choudhury in the team against India.
"Everyone is very excited. All the players want to meet him and train with him as soon as possible. I have been in touch with him almost every week. So, looking forward to meeting him, to start planning together on how to beat India next week."
