Time’s up for Pakistan’s 90s crew, says Rashid Latif

Pakistan's Imam-ul-Haq (2R) speaks with teammate Haris Rauf (2L) as field umpire Michael Gough (R) inspects the outfield after rain delayed the start of the ICC Champions Trophy one-day international (ODI) cricket match between Pakistan and Bangladesh at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on February 27, 2025. Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif wants the 90s cricketers out of Pakistan cricket's management. The ex-wicketkeeper pointed fingers at the old guard, blaming them for the team's struggles in ICC tournaments.

"It took 17 years [for Pakistan to win another World Cup] because the 90s players did not spare Pakistan cricket," Rashid said while speaking on a TV channel, urging a fresh start.

His comments come follow Pakistan's Champions Trophy disaster -- an ICC event they hosted after 29 years. The defending champs failed to win a single game, and finished below Bangladesh in the group standings.

Latif believes keeping the 90s crew away from key roles could spark a turnaround.

"Keep 90s players away from management and the team, then they will try to win.

"They have been serving Pakistan cricket for so long now. So, I think, they should rest now," he said.
