Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has overcome the extremely critical period after his stenting surgery yesterday, said the officials at the KPJ Specialised Hospital in Savar at a press briefing today.

Tamim, who had suffered a heart attack yesterday at BKSP during a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match, had regained consciousness yesterday noon soon after his surgery and his condition has progressed well in the following hours.

"He is healthy, he is talking, he is eating, he has spoken with his family and with the doctors. By the grace of Allah and through all of your prayers, he is with us.

"Inshallah, we will be able to discharge him from here. His family will decide when and how he will be discharged. We have explained everything to them. We will honour the family's decision and cooperate accordingly," Dr Rajib added.

Although Tamim is close to returning home from the hospital, the physicians have suggested him to take take three months to heal from the surgery.
