Shakib signs with Rupganj for DPL

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has signed with Legends of Rupganj for the upcoming edition of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL).
Shakib, who has not stepped foot in Bangladesh since the fall of the Awami League regime, of which he was a part of as an MP.
Shakib wanted to play his farewell Test in Dhaka in October last year, however, had to change those plans in the face of protests.
The all-rounder was also picked by the Chittagong Kings for the 11th Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) but could not take part.
It's unclear whether Shakib can return to take part in the DPL, which is set to begin in the first week of March.
Still, Rupganj officials completed his registration today in Mirpur for the event and are hopeful of getting his services.
"We have picked Shakib because of cricketing reasons. If he can return to the country, he will play. If he is unable to return, that's a different matter," a Rupganj official told The Daily Star.
Shakib is also currently serving a bowling ban for an illegal action. His action was flagged by the ECB after his lone match for Surrey in last year's September and on December 10, after an independent test, the ban was imposed.
The 37-year-old has undergone a couple of tests since then but has failed to clear his action.
However, the ban will not stop him from playing as an all-rounder in Bangladesh's domestic cricket and he can also play as a batter in any ICC-mandated cricket game.
