Selectors throw Champions Trophy selection matter to Tamim's court
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu informed that they had a very good meeting with Tamim Iqbal regarding his participation in the upcomong Champions Trophy on Wednesday and now it's Tamim's turn to let them know about his availability for the event.
"Today, we, the selection panel, had a meeting with Tamim Iqbal. It took place very cordially. We have discussed many things in detail," Lipu told reporters after a meeting between national team selectors and Tamim at a hotel in Sylhet.
Tamim, who is currently leading Fortune Barishal in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League, last played for Bangladesh during a home series against New Zealand in September 23.
"We have a big event coming up. But we can't decide on the matter all of a sudden. It's a very big decision. We have come here as representatives of the board. But in such matters, we have to be careful that the player has his family, well-wishers, and a favourite coach and there is a matter of discussion for him with them before taking any decision," he said, adding that they will finalise the Tigers' squad for the ICC Champions Trophy by January 12.
"We have to announce the team by January 12 and before that, we have to submit the team to the board. We think that he [Tamim] can take time as we have got some time. He is currently playing in a tournament. We have made our primary discussion with him," Lipu added.
