Rubaba to become BCB director?

Renowned corporate figure Rubaba Dowla has been rumoured to become BCB director as one of the National Sports Council (NSC) nominees, however, the development has not been confirmed either by herself or the NSC.

Two industrialists -- Isfak Ahsan and Yasir Mohammad Faysal Ashik -- were initially appointed BCB directors as NSC nominees after the board of directors' election held on Monday.

However, controversy arose after it emerged that Isfak was involved with the politics of banned Awami League and had sought nomination from Awami League in the last national election from Chandpur-2 constituency.

Sources said Rubaba has been informally notified about her likely appointment, though the official announcement is yet to be made.

If Rubaba is indeed appointed, she will become only the second woman in BCB's history to serve as a board director, following Monowara Anis Minu, who held the position in 2007.

Rubaba currently serves as the Country Managing Director for Oracle Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan. She previously held top executive positions at Grameenphone and Airtel.

Beyond her corporate portfolio, Rubaba has also been active in sports administration. She served as the president of the Bangladesh Badminton Federation from 2009 to 2015 and has been a board member of Special Olympics Bangladesh.
