44 clubs stand firm, vow to continue boycott over BCB election dispute

Forty-four clubs have reaffirmed their stance to continue protests against the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), alleging irregularities in the recent board elections, and will maintain their boycott of domestic leagues.

Despite BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul's announcement -- made after a meeting with club representatives and the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) -- that the First Division League would begin on December 11, the clubs have refused to withdraw their boycott decision.

On Tuesday, the clubs held further discussions and reiterated their stance.

"Our position remains unchanged regarding the boycott. Mohammedan has been with you and will always stand by you," Mohammedan's cricket chairman Masuduzzaman said during a press briefing, addressing organisers and the media.

The 44 clubs had initially announced the boycott following alleged irregularities in the BCB elections held on October 6, plunging the future of the First Division League and other Dhaka-based domestic competitions into uncertainty.

The league was originally scheduled to start on November 18 but was postponed to November 25 after only 12 First Division clubs participated in the players' transfer. While announcing the latest schedule, the BCB president also extended the players' transfer deadline to December 5 and 6.
