‘Phenomenal Mushfiqur will be remembered for years’

Heartfelt messages poured in for Bangladesh stalwart Mushfiqur Rahim after the 37-year-old cricketer announced his retirement from ODI cricket late on Wednesday.
Mushfiqur, a key member of Bangladesh's 'Big Five' -- which also includes Tamim Iqbal, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Shakib Al Hasan, and Mahmudullah Riyad -- has played a pivotal role in many of the Tigers' achievements across formats for more than a decade.
Hence, it was no surprise that several of his teammates expressed their gratitude and admiration for the wicketkeeper-batter.
"Whatever you have achieved, my friend, it has been phenomenal. Whatever you have done as a captain, as a player for Bangladesh, this will be remembered for years and years to come," said former Bangladesh skipper and one of Mushfiqur's close friends, Tamim Iqbal, in a video message on his official Facebook page yesterday.
Meanwhile, current Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto highlighted how Mushfiqur has served as an inspiration over the years.
"Thank you for INSPIRING a million of us dear Mushfiq bhai. A true team man, your dedication to the game has been a role model to us and will inspire generations to come in Bangladesh cricket. Bangladesh cricket will never forget your contribution," Shanto wrote on his Facebook page.
Wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan Sohan described Mushfiqur as a 'match-winner like no other in the format.'
"Thank you, Mushfiqur Rahim bhai, for all the incredible memories in ODI cricket. You have been a match-winner like no other in this format. Wishing you continued success in the Test arena!" Sohan wrote in a Facebook post.
Batter Jaker Ali Anik perhaps echoed the sentiments of millions of Mushfiqur's admirers, simply stating: "Will miss you a lot, brother."
