No runs in Super Over for the first time in a T20I

History was made in a T20I match between Bahrain and Hong Kong in Malaysia yesterday as for the first time ever in international cricket, a team scored zero runs in a Super Over.

Bahrain is now the holder of this ignominious record as the side lost both their wickets in the Super Over inside the first three balls to set up a one-run target which Hong Kong chased down in three balls without losing a wicket.

In the match, Hong King batted first and put up 129-7 and in reply, Bahrain's Ahmer Bin and Ali Dawood took 12 of the 13 required in the final over to level the scores and take the match into a Super Over.

As per the rule, Bahrain, the team that batted second, went out to bat first in the Super Over. But after a dot ball first up, Ahmed was dismissed by Ehsan Khan in the second ball. In the very next ball, Bahrain lost Sohail Ahmed, to notch up a world record.

Hong Kong's Babar Hayat played two dot deliveries before taking a single to complete the win.

The previous lowest score in a Super Over in men's T20Is belonged to Afghanistan, who had made one run against India in last year's January.

However, there have been a few zero-run Super Overs in club cricket.

The first time this happened was in the 2009 edition of the Champions League T20 during a match between South African side Eagles and England's Sussex.

In that game, Eagles made nine in the Super Over and in reply, Sussex lost both their wickets in the first two balls.
