Mahmud not returning to team director role for Eng series
BCB Director Khaled Mahmud had taken a break from his role as team director of the national team during India's tour of Bangladesh and said he will not return to the role for the England series.
Chandika Hathurusingha is due in Bangladesh today and the Sri Lankan had good rapport with Mahmud as the manager during his previous tenure with Bangladesh. While media reports had said that Mahmud was slated for a return to his role as team director, the former Bangladesh captain said he will not be taking on the role this time around.
"No, I don't think so," Mahmud told reporters today when asked about whether he is returning as team director for the England series.
"Since this is a home series, everyone will be here so I don't really want to [return to the role]. I don't think I will be taking the role in home series. Let's see after this series ends. Everyone from the board is here and can help since it's a home series. So, don't think I will be returning," he added.
Mahmud believes that Chandika will take Bangladesh to a new height after taking on the role of head coach in all three formats and also informed that Chandika is expected to start working from tomorrow.
"Hathurusingha will likely start work from tomorrow. I am very positive about his return. I have always felt that I have worked with many coaches and have experience of working with him too. From what I know of him, I have very positive feelings. Maybe he will take us further than where we are right now. The Hathu that was here before didn't have an experienced side but he made that side into a driving force and we started winning games and the dressing room culture changed. There were lots of changes. Hathu will find a more matured team in his hands and he himself is a more matured coach, so in that regard we can hope that we can do something even better under him and Bangladesh will attain more success," he said on expectations after Chandika's return as head coach.
