KKR swoop in to sign Fizz for record INR 9.2cr
Bangladesh's most consistent presence in the Indian Premier League, Mustafizur Rahman, landed a record-breaking deal at the IPL mini auction on Tuesday as three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders scooped him up for INR 9.20 crore -- the highest price ever paid for a Bangladesh player in the tournament.
The previous highest for a Bangladesh player was INR 6 crores in the last edition when Mustafizur was scooped up by Delhi Capitals. He played three matches and picked up four wickets at an economy rate of 7.91.
The Fizz attracted strong interest in this auction, having represented five different franchises previously.
Chennai Super Kings kick-started the bidding for the 30-year-old left-arm pacer, whose base price was set at INR 2 crore, before Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders joined the fray, driving the price up significantly.
Kolkata eventually emerged victorious in the bidding war, underlining their intent to bolster their pace attack ahead of the new season.
Mustafizur won the IPL with Sunrisers Hyderabad in his debut season in 2016. That season, he claimed 17 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 6.90.
