Inquiry committee seeks more time to submit report on Jahanara allegations

The five-member inquiry committee formed to investigate allegations of misconduct in women's cricket following former national captain Jahanara Alam's complaints has been granted an extension until January 31, 2026 to submit its findings to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), the board said in a press release on Sunday.

The committee had initially been expected to submit its report on Saturday, December 20.

Earlier, on December 2, the BCB had extended the deadline to December 20 after Jahanara sought additional time to file her official written complaint. According to her legal team, Jahanara submitted her statement to the board on December 4.

In its press release, the BCB said the committee required more time after consulting with relevant individuals and reviewing the matter further.

"As part of the inquiry process, the Committee has already recorded statements from a number of individuals relevant to the matter. In the interest of ensuring a thorough, fair and proper investigation, the Committee has indicated the need to speak with additional individuals and examine further information.

"Accordingly, the Committee has requested an extension of time up to 31 January 2026 to complete its work and submit its findings to the Board," the BCB press release read.

The BCB had formed a three-member inquiry committee on November 8 to investigate the allegations raised by the former captain. The committee was later expanded to five members.

Justice Tariq ul Hakim, former judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, is the chairman of the committee.
