After Najmul Hossain Shanto's decision to discontinue as T20 captain, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed informed that the next captain will be chosen based on leadership experience.

"We will decide soon, and it will be clear very soon [who the captain will be]," Faruque stated during the opening ceremony of the Third Division qualifiers in Mirpur on Saturday.

This year's Third Division qualifiers, traditionally limited to a few teams, has expanded to include 60 teams.

"There are a couple of players who have already captained the T20 side and are still part of the squad. We will consider someone like that for the role."

Faruque's comments indicate that Liton Das, who previously captained Bangladesh in three T20I matches against the West Indies, could be a frontrunner for the T20 captaincy role.

Faruque was also asked about potential team reshuffling, particularly with the retirements of seasoned players like Mushfiqur Rahim from limited-overs cricket and the ongoing discussions around Mahmudullah Riyad's future.

In response, he said, "I don't believe in planning just for the next World Cup. When I was a selector in 2007, players like Tamim, Shakib, and Mushfiq emerged.

"The board will set a policy, and we will work with the Cricket Operations team to chart the future of our cricket."
