Ensuring player payments main priority in DPL: Tamim

Former Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal said ensuring player payments should be the main priority in the upcoming edition of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), starting on Monday.

In the captains' photoshoot and the trophy unveiling ceremony of DPL 2025 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Saturday, Tamim highlighted that this particular tournament serves as a backbone for Bangladesh cricket.

"I believe that the DPL is the backbone of Bangladesh cricket. While good performances on the field and quality umpiring are important, ensuring that players receive their agreed payments is more important," Tamim told reporters.

Acknowledging the unique challenges faced by the country, Tamim pointed out how players are facing difficulties on the financial front, referencing the deflated funds franchises and clubs are willing to put in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and the DPL.

"We are aware that the situation in our country is somewhat different. However, despite the circumstances, players are suffering, whether it's in the BPL or the DPL."

Tamim further urged that the commitments made by the clubs should be honoured, ensuring players receive their payments as agreed. "I hope the clubs will fulfil their commitments, and every player gets their due payment. That should be the main priority," he said.

"I want the cricket to be of high quality, and for any issues regarding umpiring to be handled by the board. But above all, my priority is for the players to receive their full compensation," Tamim concluded.
